In a gripping incident that nearly altered the course of history, former President Donald Trump narrowly survived an assassination attempt in 2024, an event that has reportedly deepened his spiritual beliefs. Pastor Mark Burns, a longstanding spiritual advisor to Trump, shared insights into the profound impact this experience has had on the former President’s faith and sense of destiny.
During a Shrove Tuesday discussion on GB News, Pastor Burns, who leads the Harvest Praise and Worship Centre in South Carolina, was questioned about whether the life-threatening event had strengthened Trump’s spirituality. “He knows, without a shadow of doubt, that the hand of God was – is – upon his life,” Burns affirmed.
Burns described the incident not as mere chance but as divine intervention. “It was the hand of God that moved that bullet just sheer millimetres” away from Trump’s head, he explained.
The attempt on Trump’s life occurred on July 13, 2024, during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, when 20-year-old Thomas Crooks fired multiple shots from a semi-automatic rifle. While one bullet grazed Trump’s ear, another tragically claimed the life of attendee Corey Comperatore.

Burns highlighted the severity of the situation, suggesting that the nation narrowly avoided a catastrophe reminiscent of the assassination of John F. Kennedy. “That was what we were supposed to witness: a JFK part two, live on television,” he stated.
Reflecting on the event’s personal ramifications, Burns indicated a marked shift in Trump’s spiritual perspective. “So when you talk about: ‘Is he more spiritual?’ 100 per cent,” he remarked.
In honor of the incident and Trump’s resilience, a project has been initiated to erect a 22-foot statue capturing the moment Trump raised his fist post-attack. Pastor Burns has expressed his support for this tribute.
“This group of American patriots has come together, raised the funds themselves, and they’re going to be dedicating this beautiful statue,” Burns announced.
The statue, crafted in bronze and adorned with gold leaf, is slated for installation in Doral, Florida, near one of Trump’s golf resorts. “It symbolises when he was shot in the ear and how he defiantly raised his fist with the blood coming down the side of his face, telling the whole world ‘fight, fight, fight’,” Burns added.
Currently, White House officials are coordinating to determine when Trump can attend the statue’s official unveiling. For many in the U.S. and beyond, Trump is viewed as a leader with a divine mandate.
In the same year as the assassination attempt, Trump earned $300,000 (£273,000) from sales of customized Bibles.
