Virginia Congresswoman Sees Significant Increase in Net Worth
Since her election to Congress in 2023, Virginia Representative Jen Kiggans appears to have experienced a substantial rise in her net worth, according to her personal financial disclosures.
When Kiggans was elected in 2022, she reported a net worth of up to $2.9 million. Recent disclosures filed in August reveal her net worth could now be as high as $7.5 million, indicating an increase ranging between $400,000 and $6.1 million.
This financial growth presents a challenging situation for Kiggans, who has consistently criticized her Democratic rival, former Representative Elaine Luria, for purportedly increasing her wealth while in office. Kiggans previously defeated Luria in 2022, and the two are set to compete again this year.
Adding to the complexity, Luria’s financial disclosures indicate that her own net worth might not have grown during her time in office. Luria reported a net worth between $3.7 million and $13.6 million upon entering Congress in 2019, which decreased to between $3.4 million and $12.9 million by the time she left.
Kiggans has asserted that Luria’s wealth increased by $21 million during her tenure, a claim that remains unsubstantiated and exceeds the maximum potential growth of Luria’s reported finances.
In a related development, Fox News had to issue a correction last month after inaccurately reporting that Luria’s net worth “skyrocketed” while serving in Congress.
The race between Kiggans and Luria is for the representation of Virginia’s 2nd District, encompassing Virginia Beach. A poll conducted by the House Majority PAC in July showed the race to be evenly matched.
