In an event that has captured significant attention, Franklin Graham’s recent gathering in London saw an overwhelming response, filling the ExCel Centre to its 15,000-person capacity and leaving an additional 2,000 attendees worshipping outside. This event, organized by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA), was part of the ongoing God Loves You Tour, which has already visited several UK cities such as Glasgow and Birmingham.
The Saturday night gathering featured musical performances by noted worship artists including Michael W Smith, CeCe Winans, and The Afters. Graham delivered a message centered on hope and divine love, particularly resonant amid global tensions and conflicts such as the wars in Ukraine, the Middle East, and the tensions between China and Taiwan.
As Graham addressed the crowd, he remarked, “Since I last preached here in London two years ago, the world seems to be one step closer to Armageddon.” He spoke directly to the feelings of despair some might have, stating, “Many people feel hopeless, and they’re asking is the world running out of time? Many of you who have come tonight feel hopeless. You begin to wonder if the world will fall apart. You can come to the One who can turn that around, and that is the Lord Jesus Christ—God’s Son.”
Highlighting the essence of his message, he quoted scripture, “The Bible says that God so loved the world He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.”
The event at the ExCel Centre was the highlight of a series of gatherings supported by BGEA and local churches. These included Pursuit, a youth-focused initiative aimed at inspiring young Christians. Across the UK, over 2,000 young people participated in these events. Rebecca Pretorius, a youth leader at Freedom Church, Colchester, noted the impact, saying, “There’s fire. There’s an ember there, and it’s catching light.” She mentioned that 14 young attendees committed to Christ during their Pursuit event and subsequently attended Graham’s event, bringing along friends who were not believers.
