Scott Brown Announces Senate Bid in New Hampshire

Scott Brown, the former Senator from Massachusetts known for his stance against the Affordable Care Act (ACA), has declared his candidacy for the open U.S. Senate seat in New Hampshire next year.

In his campaign video, Brown expressed support for President Donald Trump and criticized the “extreme left” for its stance on issues like Hamas and gender in sports.

Brown explained his reasons for running to WMUR, citing frustration with the federal delegation and policies regarding open borders and sanctuary cities.

Brown first made headlines in 2010 when he won a special election to fill the late Sen. Ted Kennedy’s seat, but he lost the seat to Sen. Elizabeth Warren in 2012.

During his tenure, Brown was an outspoken opponent of the ACA. He argued that it was financially irresponsible and would increase the federal deficit, despite the Congressional Budget Office’s (CBO) findings that the ACA reduces the deficit.

In a 2010 statement, Brown urged the abandonment of “federally controlled health care,” and he voted for its repeal in 2011. His position was rooted in both financial and civil liberty concerns, opposing tax penalties imposed by the ACA.

Brown previously ran for the U.S. Senate in New Hampshire in 2014, facing criticism for changing his official residence to the state shortly before his campaign. He lost that race to Sen. Jeanne Shaheen by nearly 16,000 votes. Following this, he served as the U.S. Ambassador to New Zealand and Samoa under the Trump administration.

Currently, Brown is the first notable Republican to enter the New Hampshire Senate race, while U.S. Rep. Chris Pappas is the only prominent Democrat in the race so far.

In response to Brown’s candidacy, Pappas stated via social media, “It’s official: MAGA loyalist Scott Brown just announced he’s running to flip this seat red. New Hampshire rejected him before, and we can do it again.”
