In a dramatic scene in west London, a historic church was engulfed by a massive fire on Sunday night, prompting a significant response from emergency services. The King’s Hall Methodist Church, a derelict building, became the center of attention as flames illuminated the night sky.
Alerted by local witnesses around 9:30pm, approximately 70 firefighters rushed to the site in Southall to combat the fierce blaze. According to the London Fire Brigade, “At the height of the fire, most of the ground floor, second floor and roof were alight.”
The dedicated efforts of the fire brigade brought the situation under control by 12:30am, though the fire left the Grade II listed building heavily damaged.
Fortunately, there have been no reported injuries, and the exact cause of the fire remains undetermined as investigations are ongoing.
In the aftermath, road closures were enforced along South Road between Park Road and High Street on Monday morning to facilitate the ongoing investigation.
The church, a notable design by architect Sir Alfred Gelder, was completed in 1916 but ceased operations in 2013, standing vacant until the incident.
