Olivet University Secures Permanent Land Use for Anza Campus Operations

In a significant decision for Olivet University, the Riverside County Planning Commission has unanimously granted the institution a permanent right to operate its expansive 1,000-acre campus in Anza, California. This landmark decision comes with robust backing from the local community.

Jonathan Park, president of Olivet University, expressed gratitude towards the Planning Commission and county staff, stating, “We appreciate the Planning Commission and the County staff for their professionalism and collaboration throughout this process.” Park also acknowledged the support from local residents, noting, “Their encouragement and confidence in our mission mean a great deal to us.”

The approval marks a transition for Olivet University from a public use permit with a 50-year limit to a permanent land-use entitlement, ensuring the university can continuously use its Anza campus for educational purposes without an expiration date.

The application process included a public comment period, during which 30 supportive letters were received from Anza residents, business owners, and community leaders, with no opposition recorded. Among the letters was one from Dennis Whitfield, vice president of the Community Hall Board, who emphasized the integration and contribution of Olivet University members to the community.

Frank Miller, another local resident with deep roots in Anza, also voiced support, highlighting the educational potential of the property. He stated, “Olivet University has been a good neighbor and has provided jobs and opportunities for local businesses. The Anza community will benefit from having a land use designation that supports an educational institution.”

Additional endorsements came from community figures such as James Wyatt, the local library branch manager, and Kevin Watson, a local pastor, both of whom praised Olivet University’s involvement in community services and events.

Nathanael Tran, chairman of the Olivet University Board of Trustees, reflected on the significance of the decision, pointing out that it brings “greater certainty and stability for our students, faculty, staff, and the broader community as we continue our educational mission and future development.”
