Pro-Life Advocates Rally in Washington to End Federal Funding for Planned Parenthood

In a spirited gathering on Capitol Hill, pro-life activists urged Congress to stop federal funding for Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers. Among the speakers was Toni McFadden, who recounted a personal experience with Planned Parenthood that left her with profound regret and a call to action.

McFadden, who faced a traumatic incident with abortion drugs supplied by Planned Parenthood during her high school years, spoke of the lasting emotional scars. “Abortion doesn’t bring healing; it leaves wounds and lifelong regret,” she stated, advocating for an end to what she described as funding for “lies” and “death.”

As an advocate and founder of Relationships Matter, McFadden joined over 300 pro-life supporters from across 39 states in a bid to influence the congressional budget reconciliation process. Their goal: to defund “Big Abortion” and redirect the nearly $700 million in federal funding Planned Parenthood received, according to its 2022-2023 report.

Highlighting concerns over Planned Parenthood’s practices, McFadden pointed to the organization’s alleged targeting of minority women and financial motivations. Her sentiments resonate with many in the pro-life movement who are increasingly vocal about their objections to taxpayer funding for abortion services.

Students for Life of America, a significant pro-life organization, announced plans for over 100 events across 33 states. Kristan Hawkins, the group’s president, emphasized the movement’s message to federal leaders: “Defund your political enemies, invest in lifesaving, life-affirming medical care.”

Marjorie Dannenfelser, leading the Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America group, reiterated the movement’s unified stance on defunding abortion providers. She noted that with the current political landscape, there’s a viable path to achieving their goals through the reconciliation bill, which requires only a simple majority in the Senate.

Complementing the rally was a letter signed by 150 pro-life organizations from all 50 states, sent to Congress to underscore the demand for defunding in the upcoming bill. The Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission played a vital role, delivering 10,000 signatures in support of the cause.

In the midst of these actions, the pro-life movement continues to galvanize support, with leaders like Pastor Gevan Spinney emphasizing the importance of prayer and advocacy in navigating the complex legislative environment.
