The Shine Your Light Christmas evangelistic outreach has seen a remarkable turnout from local churches, leaving organisers “overwhelmed” by the enthusiastic participation. Over the course of three days, from December 12 to 14, the initiative reached more than 3 million individuals across the UK and Ireland.
Churches across the region registered over 2,000 events to mark this campaign. The activities kicked off with a Christmas carol service by The Salvation Army at the Royal Albert Hall, attracting an audience of 5,000. Other notable events included community carols at Warrington Rugby Stadium and Aston Villa Stadium, as well as street outreach and workplace gatherings aimed at spreading the Christmas spirit.
The campaign’s reach extended further when it was featured on BBC’s Songs of Praise on December 14, capturing the attention of approximately a million viewers. The Redeemed Christian Church of God played a significant role by mobilising members from over 900 congregations to spread the Christmas message in various public venues, including railway stations and shopping malls.
In a special collaboration with Spring Harvest, a carol service was recorded to be aired to an estimated 56,000 prisoners on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Shine Your Light’s partner, Green Pastures, also planned to broadcast this service within its network of shelters for the homeless.
Pastor Jonathan Oloyede, the founder of Shine Your Light, expressed his gratitude, noting that the campaign was “blessed beyond all we could ever imagine.” He highlighted the growing participation in their daily prayer sessions and 72-hour prayer vigils, which attracted support from numerous churches and individuals across the four nations.
Pastor Oloyede shared an inspiring story of a woman from Witney, Oxfordshire, who, motivated by her faith, started a TikTok channel to share testimonies, Bible verses, and answer questions about faith, amassing over 8,000 followers this year alone.
Elder Mark Davies of Paignton Baptist Church described how Shine Your Light seamlessly integrated into their Advent activities. His congregation, participating for the first time, led outdoor carols, engaged in one-on-one conversations, and invited locals to their ‘Open House’ coffee space, extending invitations to Christmas services to about 350 homes in the vicinity.
Major Scott Cunliffe from Bangor Salvation Army utilized Shine Your Light resources to organize a varied festive schedule, including carol services at diverse venues such as bowling centers, offices, nursing homes, shopping areas, and golf clubs. The outreach was set to culminate with carols at a Parkrun event, engaging over 400 runners, followed by a final service at a special learning center.
Reflecting on the December activities, Major Cunliffe remarked, “Throughout December we’ve been out in the community almost daily. From outdoor carol services and social clubs to a Christmas movie night advertised only on Facebook, we met many people we’d never encountered before.”
Looking ahead, Shine Your Light plans a month-long national prayer vigil from January 5 to February 5, 2026. Pastor Oloyede remains hopeful, stating, “We thank God for every story we hear of new Believers coming to faith. Churches are reporting better-prepared and better-resourced outreach, growing confidence in sharing the Gospel, and a fresh unity across denominational lines. God is clearly doing something new in local communities.”
