In a heartbreaking event, the Guadalupe River in Texas overflowed following intense rainfall on Thursday night, submerging a Christian all-girls summer camp. This natural disaster has resulted in the tragic loss of at least 51 lives, including 15 children.

Efforts to find 27 missing girls from Camp Mystic, a Christian summer camp located along the Guadalupe in Kerr County, are still ongoing. Families of four campers have confirmed their passing to CNN.

Prominent Christian author Beth Moore expressed her devastation, describing the incident at Camp Mystic as a “tragedy.” She urged, “Please pray with me for these beloved children, the families of those confirmed lost and traumatized kids and camp workers,” while hoping for “miraculous rescues to still be ahead.”

Hundreds, drawn to the area for 4th of July festivities, were staying along the river in camps and RV parks. However, the river’s rapid rise of over 20 feet within two hours due to the downpour led to flash flooding. Reports indicate victims include children as young as eight years old.

Churches have hosted prayer vigils, and many in the Christian community are actively participating in relief efforts. The Southern Baptists of Texas Convention has sent teams to assist in Kerr County and is accepting donations to aid those impacted.

Greg Laurie, pastor at Harvest, called the flooding “absolutely tragic and heartbreaking.” He encouraged, “Let’s pray for the first responders tirelessly searching for the children lost in the flood from the camp.” He also emphasized the importance of supporting the grieving families during this “devastating time.”

Evangelist Franklin Graham labeled the situation “devastating” and requested prayers for those affected and for the rescue teams. “Pray for those who have lost or missing loved ones and for first responders and rescue teams working to save lives,” he stated.

Amidst the turmoil, Ty Badon, who is searching for his daughter and her friends, implored, “Whoever watches this thing – pray,” during an interview with CNN.
