- 🎧 Social media platforms have long benefited from Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, which shields them from liability for user-generated content by classifying them as intermediaries. However, attorneys are now using product liability laws to challenge tech companies, asserting that features like infinite scroll and autoplay render these platforms defective. The plaintiffs liken the impact of social media on young users to the addictive nature of slot machines, arguing for accountability from the companies. A jury ruling in favor of the plaintiffs may lead to a multi-billion-dollar settlement and transformative changes in how these platforms operate.

President Trump has significantly expanded federal immigration enforcement in his second term, leveraging the 287(g) program to deputize local police in immigration law enforcement. This expansion marks a notable shift in his immigration strategy. From just 45 agreements in 2019, the number has surged to 1,412 active agreements by February 2026, with over 1,130 signed in 2025 alone. Here’s an overview of the program:
- ➡️ The jail enforcement model involves screening jail entrants for legal U.S. status, notifying ICE if they are undocumented, and holding them for ICE removal.
- ➡️ The warrant service officer model allows police to execute administrative warrants for immigration law violations within jails.
- ➡️ The task force model permits officers to stop, question, and arrest individuals for immigration violations, comprising the majority of 287(g) agreements.
- ➡️ Task force model training includes a 40-hour course covering immigration law, ICE’s Use of Force policy, civil rights law, and more.
