False Claims Surround Janelle Stelson’s Campaign
A recent claim made by the Trump White House has been proven inaccurate, asserting that Democrat Janelle Stelson’s campaign employed an undocumented immigrant accused of indecent exposure.
On October 7, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued a press release regarding the arrest of Chimaobim Adedayo Igbojekwe, a Nigerian resident of Pennsylvania. The release erroneously described Igbojekwe as a “canvasser for congressional candidate Janelle Stelson” in its opening sentence.
Federal candidates must publicly disclose all individuals on their campaign payrolls. However, Igbojekwe’s name is absent from any Federal Election Commission (FEC) filings associated with Stelson.
Responding swiftly, Stelson’s campaign clarified their lack of connection with Igbojekwe. Campaign manager Alma Baker stated, “This individual is not and has never been employed by the Janelle Stelson campaign. If he is an illegal immigrant who committed a crime he should be deported. We never heard of him prior to the news of his arrest. We are grateful to law enforcement for acting swiftly to arrest him.”
The White House has yet to disclose the basis of its false statement, yet several far-right influencers such as LibsOfTikTok and Benny Johnson have rapidly disseminated the claim on social media platforms.
The DHS press release also inaccurately attributes confirmation of Igbojekwe’s campaign involvement to “local reporting.” The cited source, Shore News Network, has a discernible conservative bias and credits information from Scott Pressler, a far-right activist unaffiliated with governmental or law enforcement entities.
Janelle Stelson is currently challenging Republican Representative Scott Perry in Pennsylvania’s 10th District, a race recognized as one of the most competitive congressional contests of 2026.
