Karrin Taylor Robson, a former Republican candidate for Arizona governor, has removed a reference to an anti-abortion organization from her campaign website. Robson, who ran in the 2022 Republican primary, originally highlighted her support for Maggie’s Place, a Catholic nonprofit that advises against abortions for unhoused pregnant women.
The previous version of her website described her as a dedicated conservative who contributed financially to the nonprofit, stating, “Karrin is a longtime conservative activist and supporter, working for Republican organizations as a donor, fundraiser, and activist. She also proudly donated to Maggie’s Place, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting pregnant women in need.” However, this reference has been omitted from her current website.
Interestingly, her updated site does not mention abortion at all, despite her history of opposing reproductive rights. In 2022, Robson wrote on X, “I’ve been proudly pro-life my whole life. I’ve supported pro-life leaders and I am proud to stand with the unborn.”
While Robson has indicated support for abortion exceptions in cases of rape or incest, her stance has been nuanced. During a 2022 interview with KTAR host Barry Markson, she suggested that pregnancies resulting from rape are “extremely rare,” saying, “I believe that life begins at conception and, quite frankly, the instance of pregnancies occurring in violent situations are extremely rare. In fact, it’s estimated that in less than 2% of those situations did pregnancy occur. I would go back to making sure that every woman, regardless of their age or circumstance, knows that there are non-violent choices available to them.” This claim lacks scientific support.
Robson is not alone in altering her public stance on abortion. In 2022, other Arizona Republicans, including U.S. Senate candidate Blake Masters and gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake, also removed anti-abortion language from their campaign websites.
In a recent voting initiative, 61% of Arizona voters endorsed a proposition to enshrine abortion rights in the state constitution. If Robson wins the Republican nomination, she will likely face incumbent Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs, who has emphasized her actions to safeguard abortion access. Hobbs’ campaign site states, “Fulfilling her promise to protect Arizonans’ health care, in 2024 Katie repealed Arizona’s 1864 total abortion ban, made birth control available over the counter, and protected women and doctors from prosecution.”
Robson has received an endorsement from President Donald Trump.
