Michael Whatley’s Investments Gain Amid Iran Conflict
As the conflict with Iran continues, Republican Michael Whatley’s investments in defense and energy sectors are seeing substantial growth.
Financial disclosures indicate that Whatley has invested up to $2.1 million in these sectors, which have experienced significant profits since the onset of the conflict six months ago.
Despite public opposition to the war, with nearly 60% of voters against it, Whatley remains a vocal supporter.
In a statement to Fox News in July, Whatley advised, “Stay the course,” emphasizing the importance of preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
He endorsed the initial military actions in March, expressing support for President Donald Trump’s strategy, which he believed would be a “limited mission.”
The ongoing conflict has disrupted the Middle Eastern oil trade, resulting in increased global gas prices. This scenario has benefited American oil companies, which face fewer logistical challenges.
Whatley has investments up to $1.6 million in gas and oil stocks, including ConocoPhillips, Chevron, Shell, and ExxonMobil. Notably, his and his spouse’s Shell shares have risen by almost 12% since May.
In the defense sector, Whatley has invested nearly half a million dollars. His GE Aerospace holdings saw a 31% increase between May and August.
Additionally, he has acquired more shares in Park Aerospace, a company involved in missile defense systems for the U.S. government. A report by Seeking Alpha noted that the war could boost the company’s growth, leading to a stock value increase of over 60% from February to August.
Between 2006 and 2015, Whatley worked as a lobbyist for defense contractors, including Lockheed Martin.
Currently, Whatley is campaigning for a U.S. Senate seat in North Carolina, with his Democratic rival, former Gov. Roy Cooper, pledging to vote against the Iran war.
