Enter the 2026 NPR Senior Podcast Challenge: A Unique Chance for Seniors to Shine in Audio Storytelling

National Public Radio (NPR) is calling on seniors aged 65 and over across the United States to share their stories through a podcast in the 2026 Senior Podcast Challenge. This competition offers an opportunity for creative expression and the chance to be spotlighted on NPR’s renowned programs. With no purchase necessary to enter, this contest is an engaging initiative for seasoned voices ready to narrate their experiences.

Contest Overview and Prizes

The NPR Senior Podcast Challenge invites seniors to submit an original audio file, potentially leading to the winning entry being featured on popular NPR segments like All Things Considered or Morning Edition. Eight finalists will be selected from the pool of entries. Each finalist, except for the grand prize winner, will receive a trophy and NPR-branded merchandise valued at $150. The grand prize winner will be awarded a trip to NPR Headquarters, where their podcast will be discussed on air, and will also receive a trophy. The grand prize package is valued at $2,300.

Important Dates and Submission Guidelines

The contest submission window opens at 12:00 a.m. ET on August 16, 2026, and closes at 11:59 p.m. ET on November 30, 2026. Judging will occur from December 1, 2026, to January 15, 2027, with finalists being notified around January 15, 2027. Finalists and the grand prize winner will be announced publicly on February 1, 2027.

Entrants must create an original podcast between three to eight minutes long. The podcast should not utilize AI-generated content and must be uploaded to platforms like SoundCloud, Podbean, or Anchor with download capabilities enabled. All entries must comply with the respective platform’s terms of use, and the submission must not infringe on any third-party rights.

Eligibility and Entry Process

To be eligible, participants must be U.S. residents aged 65 or older. Entries can be submitted individually or jointly. Employees and family members of NPR or its affiliates are ineligible. To enter, participants must upload their podcast to the aforementioned platforms and complete the submission form at https://npr.formstack.com/forms/senior_podcast_challenge.

Judging Criteria

Submissions will be evaluated on three main criteria: 40% for information and structure, 40% for personality and creativity, and 20% for production quality. A preliminary panel of judges will first select eight finalists, from which a final panel will choose the grand prize winner.

Terms and Conditions

Finalists and the grand prize winner will handle all tax liabilities resulting from prize acceptance. Prizes are non-transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash. By entering, participants grant NPR and its affiliates a perpetual license to use their submissions.
