In a shocking display of violence, a shooting at a Minneapolis Catholic school claimed the lives of two children and left 17 others injured on Wednesday morning. The tragic incident unfolded at Annunciation Catholic School during a Mass in the first week of the school year.

The gunman, armed with multiple firearms, opened fire through the church windows at 8:30 a.m., targeting the congregants inside. “This was a deliberate act of violence against innocent children and other people worshipping,” remarked Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara. “The sheer cruelty and cowardice of firing into a church full of children is absolutely incomprehensible.”

Eight and ten-year-old children were among the casualties, killed as they sat in the pews. Several victims remain in critical condition, according to authorities.

The shooter, believed to be in his early 20s, was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was reportedly armed with a rifle, a shotgun, and a pistol, all of which were used during the attack.

“Children are dead. There are families that have a deceased child,” expressed Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, underscoring the tragedy’s profound impact. Governor Tim Walz shared his condolences on X, expressing his prayers for the affected children and teachers.

Former President Trump also commented on the situation via Truth Social, indicating that the FBI had been briefed and was actively involved. “The White House will continue to monitor this terrible situation. Please join me in praying for everyone involved!” he stated.

Dr. Thomas Wyatt, chair of emergency medicine at Hennepin County Medical Center, reported that the Level 1 trauma center was treating 11 patients, including nine students, with seven in critical condition. Meanwhile, Children’s Minnesota Hospital admitted six children, ensuring their privacy is respected amidst the crisis.

In a Facebook post, the Minneapolis Police Department confirmed the shooter was “contained” and assured the community that there was no active threat.

This is a developing story.
