In a surprising political move, President Trump has ended the Secret Service protection for former Vice President Kamala Harris, as confirmed by her spokesperson Kirsten Allen.
Traditionally, former vice presidents are entitled to Secret Service protection for six months post-office. This time frame for Harris would have concluded in July, but an extension was previously granted. President Trump has now decided to terminate this extension.
This development coincides with Harris’s plans to launch a nationwide tour to promote her latest book, 107 Days, which details her notably brief presidential campaign last year.
“The Vice President is grateful to the United States Secret Service for their professionalism, dedication, and unwavering commitment to safety,” Allen stated in an NPR interview.
Harris is currently residing in Los Angeles, where she settled after departing from Washington in January.
In a related decision, President Trump has also withdrawn Secret Service protection for the adult children of former President Joe Biden.
