A recent Vanity Fair article penned by Chris Whipple offers a rare glimpse into the life of a White House Chief of Staff who is known for her reserved demeanor and straightforward approach. The profile is based on extensive interviews conducted over a year, providing unprecedented insight into Susie Wiles.

Whipple shared with All Things Considered that the piece was a result of “lightning striking” in his journalistic career, owing to the unparalleled access he received. Through these interviews, Wiles candidly criticized several colleagues and even her boss, President Donald Trump, whom she described as having “an alcoholic’s personality.” Trump later affirmed this depiction in another news outlet, acknowledging, “She’s right. I do have an obsessive and addictive personality.”

Following the article’s release, Wiles took to X to express her discontent, labeling the profile as a “disingenuously framed hit piece” that depicted a “chaotic and negative narrative” of the administration. Nevertheless, Whipple highlighted that Wiles did not dispute any specific facts from the report, emphasizing, “Not a single fact in the piece has been contested.”
