Incident at Fort Stewart: Five Soldiers Injured in Shooting

Fort Stewart, Georgia, became the site of a concerning incident on Wednesday when a shooting occurred, leaving five soldiers injured. The Army confirmed that the perpetrator was taken into custody shortly after the incident.

According to an anonymous U.S. official, who was not authorized to speak publicly, there were no fatalities, and the suspect is currently detained. The event unfolded at the Army’s 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team area, with law enforcement responding promptly at 10:56 a.m. The shooter was apprehended less than an hour later, at approximately 11:35 a.m.

Following the incident, Fort Stewart, located about 40 miles from Savannah, updated the public via Facebook that the soldiers received immediate on-site treatment before being transferred to Winn Army Community Hospital for further care. The Army installation briefly went into lockdown, which has since been lifted.

Following the shooting, Fort Stewart assured the community that “there is no active threat,” and an investigation is underway. The FBI’s Atlanta division office in Savannah is collaborating with the Army’s Criminal Investigation Division on this matter.

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp responded to the incident with a statement on X, expressing his sorrow over the event. “We are keeping the victims, their families, and all those who answer the call to serve in our hearts and prayers, and we ask that Georgians everywhere do the same,” Kemp stated.
