New York Representative Continues to Use Campaign Funds for Luxurious Expenses

New York Representative Mike Lawler remains under scrutiny following revelations about his use of campaign funds for personal luxuries, as detailed in a Daily Mail report.

The report highlights that Lawler spent over $150,000 in the previous year on high-end services, including $11,000 on personal chauffeurs and $700 on a stay at a beachfront Ritz-Carlton in Florida, according to public Federal Elections Commission (FEC) filings.

While campaign fund expenditures on travel are permissible, they must align with legal criteria of being reasonable and necessary.

Recent FEC documents reveal that Lawler’s spending habits have persisted into 2026. In January, his campaign disbursed over $4,800 for a trip to West Palm Beach, FL, with $3,511 allocated to a limousine service and $1,355 to a Hilton stay.

Notably, West Palm Beach offers a complimentary city-run car service akin to Uber.

In the same month, $600 was spent by Lawler’s campaign at a Jefferson Valley, NY pizza restaurant, categorized as “fundraiser expenses.”

Another Florida visit in March for a fundraiser at the St. Regis Hotel in Longboat Key saw an $807 spend on car services. Sarasota County, where Longboat Key is located, provides a community car service priced between $3 and $6 per ride.

These financial decisions might estrange voters dealing with the economic consequences stemming from the conflict in Iran and former President Donald Trump’s tariff policies. Recent inflation, driven by increasing gas prices, reached a two-year peak.

As Lawler campaigns for a third House term, he is considered one of the more vulnerable Republican incumbents facing reelection challenges.
