George Santos Faces Federal Probes Amid Controversial Phone Call
The latest twist in the saga of former Congressman George Santos involves federal investigations and a contentious phone call with a journalist. As federal authorities scrutinize his activities on a prediction market, Santos finds himself in the spotlight once again for his controversial behavior and statements.
At the center of this unfolding story is Santos’s alleged involvement with the prediction market site Kalshi. According to a report, Santos is under investigation by both the Justice Department and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission over potential insider trading activities. It is alleged that he bet against his own appearance at former President Trump’s State of the Union address while misleading his followers on social media about his attendance.
Kalshi, the platform where these trades occurred, reportedly flagged these suspicious activities to federal authorities based in the Southern District of New York and Washington. The development has led to increased scrutiny of Santos, whose past is already marked by a series of public deceptions and controversies.
In a recent phone call, Santos expressed his anger over the story, contacting the journalist from a blocked number. During the heated exchange, Santos denied any federal investigations, stating, “my lawyers have been calling the Department of Justice all day, and they can’t find any investigation.” When asked about his legal representation, he deflected, saying, “I’m George f*cking Santos, of course I have a legal team.”
What followed was a series of bizarre and aggressive remarks from Santos, including a statement interpreted as a threat: “This story is going to get you a gun in your face.” When pressed for clarification, Santos responded cryptically, “You know what I mean.”
Subsequently, Santos denied making such a statement, claiming in a text message that he had said the story would “blow up in your face” instead. He also took to the social media platform X to refute the allegations and criticize the journalist, asserting, “I’ve interacted with hundreds of reporters in my life… not once was I ever threatening or aggressive… sassy? Sure but aggressive and threatening? NEVER!” he wrote.
Amid these denials, Santos has been busy reshaping his public image and career. The Associated Press reported that Polymarket, a rival to Kalshi, has severed ties with Santos, who was previously paid by the company to promote its prediction markets on social media. Additionally, Santos is now offering discounted videos on Cameo, a platform where users can pay for personalized messages from celebrities.
As the investigations proceed, Santos’s activities continue to draw attention, with many questioning his actions and credibility in light of ongoing developments.
