In a passionate call to action, Ceirion H Dewar, missionary bishop in the Confessing Anglican Church (CAC), urges the British public to embrace repentance and reaffirm their Christian faith. This appeal follows Dewar’s recent open correspondence with King Charles III.
Established in 2019, the CAC aligns itself with the foundational days of Christianity in the British Isles, though it remains outside the Anglican Communion.
Last month, Dewar addressed King Charles III in an open letter, urging an end to what he perceives as the “erosion of Britain’s Christian inheritance”.
The King, who holds the titles of Supreme Governor of the Church of England and “Defender of the Faith”, faced criticism for issuing a message during Ramadan but not for Easter.
In his most recent letter, Dewar expressed his disappointment at the King’s lack of response.
Turning his attention to the British people, Bishop Dewar emphasized the historical importance of Christianity in shaping British life, describing it as a foundational truth influencing the nation’s institutions, morals, and customs.
Bishop Dewar expressed concern that this moral framework is being supplanted.
“The moral language that once shaped them [our institutions] is being systematically redefined. We see it within parts of the Church itself, where the call to holiness is softened, and the demands of the age are too often given greater weight than the Word of God. And we are told that this is progress. It is not progress. It is decline!” he stated.
According to Dewar, this decline arises from compromises made with contemporary trends, overshadowing eternal truths, leaving the nation unrecognizable.
He continued, “If you have looked at this nation and felt that something is wrong, you are not mistaken. If you have sensed that we are losing something deeper than politics, you are not imagining it.”
To counteract this decline, Dewar advocates for personal repentance and steadfastness in truth.
He urged, “Stand in your homes, and teach your children what is true, even when the world says otherwise. Stand in your churches, and demand the Gospel in its fullness, not a diluted echo of the age. Stand in your communities, and live with a conviction that cannot be reshaped by passing opinion. Stand in the public square, and speak without fear.”
Dewar concluded his letter with a prayer, hoping that God would instill in the British people a spirit of repentance and courage, fostering a renewal of the nation.
