In a statement that has stirred significant debate, Pastor Mark Burns, a prominent supporter of Donald Trump, defended the recent military strike by the US and Israel on Iran by likening it to the prevention of a rape. Speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) to The Telegraph, Burns declared it was a “spiritual obligation” to intervene, comparing the situation to defending an innocent woman from an attacker.
“It’s our obligation, spiritual obligation. If I saw a woman being raped by a man, it’s my spiritual obligation to go over there and to defend that innocent woman,” Burns asserted.
He further stressed the plight of Iranians under the regime, drawing parallels to other global conflicts: “There are millions of innocent Iranians that have been held by gunpoint at the hand of this evil dictator, just like what’s happening in Russia, in Ukraine. It is our obligation. We don’t want the fight. We’re not looking for the fight.”
Burns mentioned that many Iranians are reportedly grateful to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Trump for challenging the regime, hoping for freedom from oppression.
Amidst these assertions, Burns also commented on President Trump’s near-death experiences, suggesting these incidents have deepened Trump’s personal faith.
The ongoing conflict erupted after a joint US-Israeli operation led to the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Grand Ayatollah Khamenei, sparking an intense series of retaliations including missile and airstrikes.
Both nations have faced accusations of using religious rhetoric to justify their actions. Netanyahu has faced criticism for allegedly equating Iran with the biblical “Amalek,” a tribe that was divinely ordered to be destroyed. Concurrently, the US military has been scrutinized for allegedly using Christian rhetoric, with reports of a commander claiming Trump was “anointed by Jesus to light the signal fire in Iran to cause Armageddon and mark his return to Earth.”
