Senator Dan Sullivan’s Campaign Expenditures Under Scrutiny
Financial disclosures reveal that Alaska Senator Dan Sullivan has allocated over $1.5 million from campaign resources on luxury accommodations and fine dining since 2015. This expenditure spans his entire Senate tenure and is linked to his current reelection efforts.
While federal regulations allow campaign funds to cover meals and travel linked to official duties, they explicitly prohibit personal use. The expenditures in question are associated with three entities: Alaskans for Dan Sullivan, his main campaign committee; Sullivan Victory, a joint fundraising body; and True North PAC, which backs other Republican candidates.
In early 2026, these groups combined spent $65,847 on food and lodging, with a significant 92% occurring outside Alaska. A notable expense included $3,500 for a stay at the Four Seasons resort in Palm Beach, Florida.
For the year 2025, the groups’ expenses on lodging, meals, and catering reached $333,291, which significantly surpassed the 2024 total of $164,936.
Alaska Democrats have highlighted Sullivan’s pattern of spending at resorts known for golf amenities, as documented in an April press release. Eric Croft, the Chair of the Alaska Democratic Party, commented, “While we’re paying $5 for a gallon of gas, choosing between paying for groceries or health care, and struggling to afford housing, Self-Serving Sullivan has literally been wining and dining Lower 48 special interest donors at luxurious golf resorts.”
The La Quinta Resort & Club in Palm Springs, California, stands out with 24 payments from Sullivan’s groups totaling $160,737 for lodging, meals, and event space. Despite La Quinta’s reputation as a mid-tier chain, its Palm Springs location is an opulent resort boasting five golf courses, rose gardens, and private pools, famously hosting The Bachelorette season 16.
From 2022 to 2025, expenses surpassed $151,000 at Kiawah Island, South Carolina, primarily at the Kiawah Golf Resort, known for hosting the 2021 PGA Championship. Notably, in October 2025, a Bloomberg News report highlighted a fundraiser co-hosted by Sullivan and Arkansas Senator John Boozman on Kiawah Island during a government shutdown. Boozman is recognized as an enthusiastic golfer.
Earlier this year, Sullivan groups spent $21,000 at The Phoenician in Scottsdale, Arizona, featuring a golf course by designer Phil Smith and a luxurious spa, frequented by celebrities. Accommodations there can reach up to $9,500 nightly.
From 2019 to 2025, $2,441 was reported at The Breakers in Palm Beach, offering an oceanside golf course, in proximity to former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago.
Sullivan’s campaign spending contrasts with his public persona of a working-class advocate, often appearing at events in work boots and a Carhartt jacket, as seen in his social media posts. Quiver Quantitative estimates his net worth at $8.4 million.
