The Easter period has witnessed an unprecedented surge in engagement with YouVersion’s Bible app, marking the highest recorded interaction with scripture to date. This app, among others developed by YouVersion, is accessible on over a billion devices, offering scripture in more than 2,400 languages globally.

During Holy Week, YouVersion reported an average daily engagement of 18.7 million users, peaking at 21.6 million on Easter Sunday, setting a new record for a single day. In the UK, app engagement increased by 6.5% during this period.

Recent trends indicate a growing interest in the Bible, with the top ten days of engagement all occurring in 2026, according to the company. While John 3:16 is commonly thought to be the most favored verse among Christians, YouVersion’s data suggests otherwise.

In the UK, last year’s favorite verse during Holy Week was John 16:33: “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” This year, Matthew 28:6 took the lead: “He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.”

Throughout the previous year, Isaiah 41:10 was the most interacted verse: “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

Bobby Gruenewald, the founder and CEO of YouVersion, commented on the trend, saying, “Over the last several months, worldwide interest in the Bible has continued to increase. It’s encouraging to see people searching for and consistently coming back to Scripture for guidance, encouragement and answers.”

“We especially see this at Easter where more people are either reflecting on their faith or trying to understand who Jesus was for themselves. Seeing people around the world encounter Scripture, many for the first time, is exactly why we do this.”
