Federal Agents Seize Devices from Ex-Rep. Swalwell Amid Investigation

Federal Investigation Intensifies as Agents Seize Devices from Eric Swalwell

In a significant development, federal agents have confiscated electronic devices from former Congressman Eric Swalwell, following a search of his residence in Washington. This action is connected to ongoing allegations of sexual misconduct against the former representative from California, as confirmed by an informed source.

Swalwell’s devices were taken by authorities at San Francisco airport on a recent Saturday, and a search warrant was subsequently executed at his home the following day. This information was provided by a source who wished to remain anonymous due to the sensitive nature of the investigation. Attempts to reach Swalwell’s attorney for comments have not yet been successful, although Swalwell has consistently refuted all accusations of sexual assault and misconduct. The initial report concerning the seizure of his devices was made by the Daily Mail.

In April, Swalwell stepped down from his congressional position amid serious allegations, including claims that he had sexually assaulted a woman on two occasions, one of which was while she was working for him. These allegations were first reported by the San Francisco Chronicle and later by CNN. Additional accusations from three other women have surfaced, detailing various forms of misconduct such as sending unsolicited explicit messages or photographs.

Swalwell, who was a potential frontrunner for California’s gubernatorial race, withdrew his candidacy following these accusations. The Manhattan District Attorney’s office, led by Alvin Bragg, has confirmed an investigation into the former congressman. This follows allegations from a former staffer, reported by CNN and the Chronicle, claiming that Swalwell raped her during a 2024 charity event in New York City. The District Attorney’s office has urged “survivors and anyone with knowledge of these allegations to contact our Special Victims Division.”

Lonna Drewes, a California woman, has accused Swalwell of raping her in 2018. Her legal representative, Arick Fudali, stated that they are cooperating fully with law enforcement agencies. Fudali expressed optimism about the FBI’s escalated investigation into the allegations against Swalwell.

Drewes detailed the alleged assault during a news conference shortly after Swalwell’s exit from the gubernatorial race. The incident reportedly took place at a Southern California hotel, a claim which Swalwell has denied.

Eric Swalwell, originally from Iowa, was elected to represent a district east of San Francisco in 2012. He briefly pursued a presidential campaign in 2019 but ended it due to a lack of voter support. In Congress, he was a notable adversary of then-President Donald Trump, and played a prominent role in the House Judiciary and Intelligence committees during Trump’s first term. He was actively involved in the prosecution during Trump’s second impeachment following the Capitol attack on January 6, 2021.

Swalwell faced removal from the Intelligence Committee by then-House Speaker Kevin McCarthy in 2023, due to his association with Christine Fang, a suspected Chinese spy. Fang had been involved in his 2012 campaign and fundraising for his 2014 campaign. Swalwell severed ties with Fang in 2015 after being briefed by federal investigators. Although no wrongdoing was found, a House Ethics Committee investigation concluded without any action.

In the wake of these events, Aisha Wahab has been elected to complete Swalwell’s term. She won a special election and will seek a full term in the upcoming November elections.
