Facebook Posts Reveal Garrity’s Sympathy for Jan. 6 Rioters and Election Fraud Claims

Stacy Garrity’s Controversial Facebook Posts Resurface Amid Gubernatorial Campaign

Posts from Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity’s Facebook account have surfaced, showcasing her support for the individuals who stormed the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, and her skepticism about the 2020 election results.

Garrity, now the leading Republican candidate for governor, appears to have had more alignment with the Capitol rioters than previously recognized.

The individuals involved in the January 6th events were followers of then-President Donald Trump, aiming to halt the certification of the 2020 election results. Trump has asserted that the election was unfair, claiming a broad conspiracy involving electoral misconduct. During the riot, participants damaged property, attacked law enforcement, and vandalized the Capitol.

During the unfolding events, Garrity’s 2020 campaign Facebook account posted a message condemning the violence and expressing support for the police, although metadata suggests it was uploaded by a consultant.

Responses to this post included defenses of the rioters, to which Garrity responded from her personal account, referring to the individuals as “patriots” and mentioning her participation in a protest against the election certification the day before.

“I am proud of our Patriots,” Garrity commented. “Just want to make sure our patriots, law enforcement, and soldiers are safe. I went to Harrisburg yesterday and spoke at the vets rally against what happened in PA in November.”

Further comments on the thread criticized the perceived threat of “communism” and questioned Garrity’s allegiance. Garrity replied, “I am not going to become part of the swamp! I spoke at the rally in Harrisburg yesterday condemning the election and lack of integrity. Just want to make sure that law enforcement and soldiers and our patriots don’t get hurt.”

In another response, she agreed with a notion that the riot was influenced by external forces.

This is not the first instance of Garrity supporting Trump’s claims of electoral fraud.

Following the 2020 election, Garrity’s campaign participated in a Trump-led initiative to disqualify over 2,000 mail-in ballots in Bucks County. Both the Commonwealth Court and the Pennsylvania Supreme Court rejected this petition.

In May 2022, during a Trump rally in Greensburg, Garrity reiterated claims that Trump was the rightful winner of the 2020 election, stating, “We know that he won.”

Trump has continually pointed to Philadelphia as a hotspot for alleged voter fraud, a claim Garrity supported during an August 2024 radio interview, stating, “I think that there’s probably always been fraud in Philadelphia, and there always will be fraud in Philadelphia.”

Contrary to these claims, various lawsuits and independent audits have validated the fairness of the 2020 election, with President Joe Biden winning Pennsylvania by over 80,000 votes.

On beginning his second term, Trump pardoned all involved in the January 6th events and has sought to have some convictions expunged. Garrity expressed no opinion on these pardons in a 2025 interview with the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Garrity is set to face Democratic Governor Josh Shapiro, who is seeking reelection.
