Jeanine Driscoll’s Tax Policy Faces Scrutiny

Jeanine Driscoll, the Republican contender for New York’s 4th congressional district, is under the spotlight for endorsing a property tax increase that did not affect her $2 million residence in Southampton.

Between 2020 and 2026, Driscoll held the position of Hempstead Receiver of Taxes, working alongside town supervisor Don Clavin. During their tenure, annual tax hikes were imposed on Hempstead’s residents.

In 2024, a notable decision by the Town of Hempstead Board saw a 12.1% rise in the tax levy, which enabled the town to collect an additional $42.2 million annually. This levy, affecting property taxes, is reportedly the largest in the town’s history according to records dating back to 2013.

While Driscoll’s $1 million Hempstead home fell under this tax increase, her more luxurious Southampton property was not subject to the same rise.

In addition, Driscoll’s Southampton home is situated outside the 4th District, within New York’s 1st District, currently represented by Republican Rep. Nick LaLota.

As the general election approaches, Driscoll is set to compete against the incumbent Democratic Rep. Laura Gillen.
