Jordan Peterson, the well-known Canadian psychologist and author, has provided an update on his health, indicating his recovery is ongoing yet allowing him to engage in creative activities like writing once more. Despite a limited range of activities, Peterson expressed gratitude for being able to contribute something meaningful during this period.
In a recent Instagram post, Peterson, aged 64, shared insights into his recovery process. The author of “12 Rules for Life and Beyond Order” noted that his current health status restricts him from resuming his typical routine, but he’s found solace in returning to writing.
“My activities are still very limited at the moment. I have been doing some writing, however — thank God,” Peterson wrote. “I’m so relieved to be once again doing something creative and useful.”
This health update follows his announcement of releasing archived lectures weekly during his recovery, a decision made while he’s unable to deliver public speeches. Peterson has been spending his time watching courses on his online education platform, Peterson Academy, which he co-founded with his daughter, Mikhaila Fuller.
Among the courses, he highlights historian Paul Kengor’s “The Dark Side of Marxism,” describing Kengor as “a truly engaging, creative and witty storyteller and lecturer.”
Peterson used the opportunity to critique Karl Marx, labeling him “quite the satanic soul” due to Marx’s interest in demonic themes within literature. He also pondered if New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, noted for his socialist views, was aware of these philosophical influences.
Peterson’s health challenges have been a source of concern for his family and followers. In April, his daughter disclosed that he suffered a recurrence of akathisia, a condition causing severe distress, following an old neurological injury.
Additionally, Peterson faced pneumonia and sepsis, marking a difficult year for the family. After numerous misdiagnoses, specialists identified the underlying issue, and his family remains hopeful for his recovery.
“Thank God for that. It’s just horrifying, and it’s so infuriating that these sensitivities, this damage that can cause severe symptoms like this, can last for so long after stopping psych meds and then, apparently, be re-triggered,” Fuller commented.
Although not a Christian himself, Peterson often explores themes of faith in his work. His wife, Tammy, converted to Catholicism in 2023, and his daughter became a Christian two years earlier.
In a 2024 interview with The Christian Post, Peterson emphasized the importance of Christianity, particularly for child-rearing in a secular world. He observed a resurgence in conservative church attendance, believing it beneficial for children’s exposure to traditional religious ideas.
“By their fruits, you will know them,” he remarked, highlighting the need for discernment in recognizing true Christian living. “You have to pay attention to the fact that not everybody who says ‘Lord, Lord is going to enter the Kingdom of Heaven,’” he added.
